At Sweet C’s, I add lots of tips in all of my recipes – because I am a home cook without any formal training, and I find I am more confident making dishes when I understand why it works, and what each ingredient means to the flavor of a recipe – my goal is for even the most beginner home cook to feel empowered in the kitchen.
I want each reader to walk away with a solid knowledge of each recipe, with all of the tips I’ve gathered from extensive testing of each recipe. I also answer questions my friends and family have asked about my recipes, to help everyone better understand the processes we use – and why!

Non-Alcoholic Ginger Wassail
This Non-Alcoholic Ginger Wassail is technically not a Gluehwein as it’s made with cider instead of wine- but it is every bit as flavorful as the adult versions!
This recipe is perfection at a party. It is so easy- dump the ingredients in a pot on the stove or in a crockpot, set to low, and let it simmer away during a party.
Just set out some cute glasses or mugs and a pretty ladle and your guests can serve themselves little cups of cheer!
How to make Non-Alcoholic Ginger Wassail
Assemble the following ingredients:
- Cherry apple cider – if you can’t find cherry apple cider you can add regular apple cider or in the off season apple juice and a cup of applesauce for a similar result.ย
- Concord grape juice – grape juice adds a very vibrant color and sugar which is evenly distributed.ย
- Pineapple juice – pineapple is very sweet and adds a nice tropical twist to this warm winter drink.ย
- Lemon juice – lemon juice is highly acidic and brings a bright note to the party.ย
- Mulling spices – mulled spices is a mixture of seasonal spices which make it taste like fall/winter.ย
- Cinnamon sticks – cinnamon is a very festive spice and has an earth warmth that will warm you inside and out in the cooler months.ย
- Cloves – cloves have a sharp earthy taste that will make this taste extra festive. If you don’t want bits of clove throughout you can stick the cloves into the sliced apple and pear.ย
- Ginger – I prefer to use fresh grated ginger for the best freshest taste. You can also substitute ginger beer (non alcoholic)ย
- Apple, Pear, and Orangeย – I love to add these fruits sliced in rounds for added flavor and texture.
Once you have assembled the ingredients use the following method
Mix. Add all the ingredients to a slow cooker or crock pot.
Simmer and serve. Let simmer for at least one hour on low then remove the oranges from the liquid to avoid a bitter taste. Serve and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks for perfect Non-Alcoholic Ginger Wassail
Mix up the sliced fruit. You can use any sliced fruit you want for this recipe. I frequently will use lemons and limes for a sharper taste.
Use cheesecloth. I prefer to put the clove and anise in a little cheesecloth pouch so that it doesn’t get in your glass when you try to serve.
FAQs

I thought I was over the mulled wine/cider (or glรถgg as we call it) for this season but apparently not, this looks amazing and I love all the fruit the ginger in it ๐
I’d love to curl up in front of a fire with a big mug of this right now. Thanks for sharing on the Creative K. Kids Tasty Tuesdays Linky Party. We hope you will join us next week.
